We Are Our Pets’ Legacy

As pet parents, we experience pure love.

Our pets give us the greatest gift there is—unconditional love. They show us what it means to be accepted and valued when we’re most vulnerable. They teach us about trust, commitment, and contentment. And they teach us about being human.

One of our most powerful abilities as humans is our ability to grieve. When your pet passes away, the deep feelings you experience happen for a reason. They’re helping you hold on to the lessons they taught you about life, love, and humanity. And those lessons are their greatest legacy.

When my husky, Aurora, passed away suddenly, I was broken. In our twelve years together, she taught me about partnership and accountability. She taught me that dedicated training and practise will always pay off, that routines can still be fun, and that when shit happens (literally) there can still be love.

Because of these lessons, I am a better person. Because of her, I am a better person.

Now, what has your pet taught you?
