We worked with independent labs, scientists, and academics to understand the biological and chemical properties of cremation ashes.
The fact is, incredibly high levels of pH and sodium lock in the nutrients of cremation ash–and are toxic to plants.
No amount of added soil can balance these levels: pH of 11.8 (compared to a healthy 5-8) and sodium up to 2000 times higher than healthy. While some hardy plants may survive by growing around or away from ashes, many will not. Ashes will remain in this state for years, without ever biodegrading.
